16 Mar 18 | Check me out on my UK tour
THERE’S plenty of things I could never have predicted when I was a mechanic working in a pit under trucks eight hours a day. Among the more bizarre of them is that I would ever be on a theatre tour of Britain, treading the same boards as some of the true theatrical greats. Although maybe it’s not so farfetched – I am, after all, as I’ve previously stated, taking acting lessons.
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be squeezing into dressing rooms up and down the land as I reveal my transition from rebellious youngster to World’s Strongest Man, with a few hair-raising feats and adventures along the way. Want to ask me a question – how many chickens I eat in a day, what I get up to in my gym sessions, my future ambitions – then come down. I’m not quite the late great Ken Dodd, but I love talking and I’ll do my best to put you straight on what it is to be the World’s Strongest Man.
I’ve always been a people person, and meeting so many of you up and down the country has genuinely been a real privilege. I might be on stage but what you see on these ‘Evening With’ events is far from an act. I just come along and be myself. And for me that’s the most rewarding thing about it – people like me for just being me. I can’t tell you what a great feeling that is.
Anyway, there’s lots of chances to come and say hello, including one in my hometown of Newcastle-under-Lyme on May 10. The New Vic is a theatre in the round, so you’ll get to see me from all angles, not just the front!
Look forward to seeing you soon.
