11 Oct 17 | Lift off for City of Culture bid
It’s not often you launch a duck into space. I’m strong, but I don’t think I could get one that far!
This was all part of Stoke-on-Trent’s bid to win the nomination for City of Culture 2021. I’m backing the city’s bid and the more people who are aware of what a great place Stoke-on-Trent is the better. I’m proud to come from North Staffordshire and even bidding for the nomination has got the city buzzing, so who knows what it will be like if we actually win it.
They say ‘duck’ a lot round here – it’s what they call each other - and so sending one up made sense.
It wasn’t just a duck in the balloon I sent up, there were cameras in there too to capture the its journey high above the city and over towards Hull, which is the current City of Culture for 2017.
I love doing things like this – you might have noticed I do quite like being on a stage! - and it’s one of the things that has changed in my life in the last few years. Five years ago, none of this would have been happening. But the hard work I’ve put in and the success I’ve had has changed my life in all sorts of different ways. Launching a bid like this is incredible – and for once I didn’t have to lift anything!
Stoke-on-Trent will find out if it’s won City of Culture in December. If it comes off, it will be a great Christmas present for Stoke-on-Trent. Either way, I can see this city and this area moving forward.
Stay good - Eddie
